First impression of the AJP, well it certainly looks the part, has got good ground clearance, a decent set of tyres, and the suspension was set up well, I first thought it would be too tall for me (I'm 5'11''), but as soon as I got my leg over it dropped down on the suspension and I had no trouble getting both feet on the floor. I had only ever seen an AJP bike once before and had assumed them to be some kind of Chinese counterfeit so this was the first time close up for me and I must say they are a well put together and very capable machine.
My daily ride is a 1200cc so there were going to be obvious differences in the power, but it really surprised me that a 200cc single could have that much output, especially offroad, it will pull you up the hills effortlessly, and has great engine braking which really helps on the downhill as I was weary of applying any sudden braking and go flying into the scenery.
Offroad?, well what can I say this bike is absolutely amazing, it just handles so well, it was my first time ever riding on trails and really expected to be off more than on, but I soon realized that the bike just had great stability and all I had to do is hang on as it was doing all the work for me, so yes I did come off but that was after 20 miles and that was really down to me getting knackered and concentration got a bit lax, in fact there were a few more powerful and bigger named bikes getting into trouble well before me, and one thing you learn very quickly is that you don't want to be picking up a heavy bike too often when you're knackered. The AJP is a perfect weight to lift if you happen to drop it. It's really good fun to ride, it's bloody amazing offroad, it's got a lot of guts too, also I think 'Craig' had set it up very well, the suspension was perfect for me, and it puts a smile on your face. It's a well built bike, ( similar to a Honda in ways).
Would I buy one? .... Yes, I'd love one as a second bike to go out greenlaning at the weekend, it's not bad on the tarmac either, if you're not pushed for time I think you do long distance, with a bit of luggage, easily.
